March / April Update

So, just a heads up - when it comes to planning I have 2 settings - OCD & Flake. With me there is no in between. So the idea for my daughter and I to give up internet at home for the 40 days of Lent SEEMED perfect, and worked well for increasing family time. The downside was that my newly created blog was left unmaintained.
Silver lining of this - every other part of my mission is absolutely going according to plan.

My sister, our friend T and myself are registered WALKERS! I am the proud captain of our 3 Day team - The Foxy Rack Pack.
Obviously there are the 2 main areas of concern in this event. Training and Fundraising.
Honestly I don't know which one freaks me out more, they are both enormous challenges.

I am AMAZED at the support we've gotten from our friends and family. Our team goal is $10,000, and less than a month later, we're 36% of the way there!
A big thanks to all our network of rockstars - your love is what keeps us going ;)
On the training side, all I can say is WHEW, its a LOT of work. I did join the gym and have been going Mon-Fri at 5am... (give or take - mornings aren't my favorite) AND our fabulous TEAM attended a kick off walk in Bellevue. It was a small glimpse of what lies ahead that weekend in September. During this walk we came to the conclusion that we are SO lucky to have each other to joke around with, and that we're probably going to be the class clowns of the event.
And honestly - did you expect anything less?!?

till next time!!

A little background....

Hello all fellow patrons of this crazy world wide web :)

This is my first crack at an official blog so forgive me. I've tinkered here and there on a certain addicting social networking site, using it mostly to write about random occurrences that seem to happen only to me. Now I've decided to put it to good use to document a mission that I've put before myself.

This mission - train, register, fund raise, and complete the Breast Cancer 3 Day which takes place in September.

I first started talking about taking this 60 mile journey 3 years ago - December 2005. It sounded like an empowering wonderful experience that benefits a great cause. However, this, as with a lot of my OTHER fabulous plans (or as my mother calls them - hair brained ideas) stayed nothing more than a pipe dream.

July 2006, My mother was diagnosed breast cancer. She had 30% of the tissue removed from her left breast, and finished up her radiation treatments early November. Being the stubborn rockstar she is, only missed 1 day of work.... the day of her surgery. Amazing.

Being so thankful that Mom came thru her ordeal as well as she did - thats when I REALLY did my homework on this marathon. I actually logged onto the site and ordered the information pamphlet, got a fancy little pink bracelet and everything. All of which sat on my desk gathering dust for the next year.

July 2008. Saturday we were thanking the Lord in celebration of her 2 year anniversary. Following Tuesday we get the call... the cancer had returned. I think this time was worse than the first time, we all felt an overwhelming sense of betrayal. It was gone. She beat it, WHY is it back, thats just not FAIR. Well, fair or not, 2 weeks later in she went for a mastectomy. 3 weeks after that a corrective surgery to graft skin damaged by the original radiation that wasn't healing. Throughout it all, she was so brave and strong, I was truely humbled. I've always known she was a tough cookie, but this was a whole new ball game. I could honestly go on for hours explaining in minute detail just how PROUD I am to be her daughter.

So now its time. I really want to do this. For my mom, your mom, our daughters, sisters and friends. As I mentioned earlier, sometimes following thru on these things just isn't my strong suit. I want to be able to follow thru on this commitment and succeed. This blog is my way of holding myself accountable. And quite frankly, I would MUCH rather tell whoever is kind enough read this, than bore my friends with the details.
Step 1 - Training. I won't lie, I've become lazy. These feet haven't been to a gym in 4 years. Even then I have never been the type to push my physical limits.
This weeks goal - to join a new local gym and begin a workout schedule. Ideally this will include 3-4 mornings a week before work (5-6am). Mornings are not my favorite, but I have a household to keep up and this is the only logical time.
And the journey begins! Wish me luck :)
